Versions of 5040 7260?

Postby dumbo on 22 Jul 2010, 00:42

I was thrilled to get the 6010s as a gift from Genelec. I immeadiately bought the 5040 to go with them. The quality of the sub/sat integration was so good that it prompted me to buy the 7260 to go with my 8240s. The 5040 I got looks like it might have been in stock for a long time at BHphoto and the manual talks about using it with the 6020A as well as the 6010A. I also noticed that the Genelec website talks about the "new" 6010/5040 system so I'm wondering if the 5040 has had more than one version (maybe I didn't get the latest)?
Also the 7260 sub that I have coming from "Boxymusic" in Belgium needs a transformer change. There may have been model upgrades so my local Genelec service depot wants a serial number in addition to the model before ordering it. I'd like to order the transformer right away while I wait for the sub to arrive. Boxy promised the serial number to me upon shipment but now that they have my money couldn't be bothered making good on the promise. Would it be unwise to order the transformer based on the model number only or do I actually need that serial number as well.

Buying the 7260 has been a nightmare.

Buying a Genelec sub has been a bit of a nightmare. Even though I live in North America, I ordered a 7260 from Boxymusic because the price difference ($800 USD cheaper including shipping and duties) between them and North America was OBSCENE (and completely unjustifiable). My first order was canceled because they couldn't get me the North American version they had promised. Then after researching I found out I could replace the transformer for $200 so I went ahead and ordered again. I was told by Boxy that they were in stock and I could expect delivery in 4 weeks. Now after waiting 4 weeks I find out Genelec didn't have them in stock to begin with and it hasn't even shipped yet. That means I have to wait at least ANOTHER 4 weeks to get my sub. Add to that the month it will take to order and replace the transformer I'm looking at 3 months. I'm just wondering why, if I have to sit here waiting for Genelec to build my sub, they couldn't at least build me one with the North American transformer?
I know what you are going to say... I should have bought it locally and gotten gouged $800 on a $2000 item.

BTW I'm posting here because I've never gotten a response when I send a message via the "contact" link on the Genelec website.

There is only one version of 5040A. It and 6010A are advertised as new because they are still relatively new, and one of the latest products Genelec has released. Remember that it is very uncommon for Genelec to come up with different versions and revisions every year or so. A well-designed product will stay current and competitive for a long time.

Would it be unwise to order the transformer based on the model number only or do I actually need that serial number as well.

The model number will be enough.
