Genelec 1029a and 7050b subwoofer

Hello.

I own a pair of genelec 1029a and wanted to extend the low freq response with its correspoding 7050a subwoofer. I see that 7050a is and old model and I would be only able to get the newer one, the 7050b.

My question is if I need to take any special consideration with the 1029a + 7050b setup compared to a 1029a+ 7050a recommended setup.

Thanks for your post. Here are some more infos about the differences between these two sub models.

The 7050A is no longer in production as it is replaced by the 7050B. The 7050A was a stereo sub with two inputs only. The replacement 7050B includes a 5.1 connection system that allows to connect 5 main speakers to the subwoofer. This implies that the 7050B is well matched for 5 x 8020A or for 2 x 8030A's (equivalent to 1029A's).
The 7050B extends down to 25 Hz and has much more flexibility due to the extended suround capability.

Both models however are fully compatible with either the 10XX series or the 8000 series.

For the connection scheme, the Operating manual and the Quick Setup Guide provide all necessary infos. They all apply to 1029A, 8030A and 8020A.

That's good to know, I am thinking of doing the same thing.

I have a question though!

Let's say I am using something like a Mackie Big Knob and I have 2 stereo sets of monitors running from the 2 outputs. Is it possible to route both the stereo lines into the sub using the L+R channels for one set and rear L+R for another so both monitors can take advantage of the subwoofer?

I suppose the question boils down to this: Are all the inputs on the 7050B the same or are they set to different input sensitivities for 5.1 calibration?

I suppose it would probably make the settings on the subwoofer the wrong configuration for the second stereo pair unless they were identical models.

Hello,

The connection scheme you mention is not standard, but it is possible to implement it. All 5 main channel in/outs of the 7050B are identical in gain structure. So, indeed you could connect one pair of speakers to the main L + R outputs and another pair to the rear L + rear R outputs. Both systems will have the bandwidth response extension provided by the 7050B sub.

Of course, the sensitivity setting on the sub would be applied to both speaker pairs as you mention.
