Loudspeakers should be a Mirror of your Imagination

I am Gabriel alias Dr. Hildebrandt and I have my studio in Hamburg, Germany. My room has a volume of 53 m³ and corresponds to the standard European living room.

My studio looks a little like a living room, because I need to feel very comfortably around myself. My two sofas are also very practical absorbers. I have equipped my studio in the course of last year with broadband absorbers, record resonator and some wall panels. However, I had enjoyed no help of a measuring software which turned out to be very exhausting and less reliably. I used to find out the problem by using a sine generator and pink noise. I could eliminate most of the problems in the low frequencies. The optimum is not reached yet.

I am active in the House genre and at that time have come by deejaying, after all, to music productions. In the beginning average Hifi speakers were used, till the audiophile insanity began via too thin mixes that were not particularly well-balanced mixes. I searched for advices and found manufacturers with countless monitors and at that time I already met the customers love for Genelecs. Unfortunately, the money did not reach at that time for the desired Genelec model. I decided for a German manufacturer and some phenomenally traded monitors they sold (Adam A7).

After 3 months of work with these speakers and some incompatible mixes in the area of 5 kHz, I was not happy. I came along on the way to my local dealer and  compared Adam A7 to some other models as well as the Genelec 8020A. Unfortunately, no other models were in stock.

Here I come to a quote which I won't forget ever: „Speaker should be a mirror of your imagination". At that time I heard only the 8020A and I was enthusiastically from the easy and lighthearted analytic sound. I took the decision already in the store, however, I didn't want to make a mistake again and waited with the purchase.

Not for very long. Quickly a buyer was found for the A7. Now I am a proud owner of the Genelec 8040A for one month and I regret only the late circumstances.

I decided without knowledge about the sound of the 8040A model, but I have to say this 8000 series, up to the bass range, all models have really identical sound. I have enjoyed my 8040A with a roll-off of-2 dB and the desktop Tilt setting. The first mix (work) translated really well on my Hifi references and I can test it now on the dance floor.

I am glad to be in the circle of the Genelec users. But, above all, I am glad about my „Monitor Searching ". I hope you like my small history and I‘m happy to hear from you.
