New Home Theater questions..
I am a new member and completly new to Home Theater.. I am building my first HT, well its more like a TV room where I want to speakers for 5.2 surround only. I dont have room for more, so 5 speakers and 2 subs will give all I need. My plan is 70% BluRay movies and 30% BluRay concerts. TV is a 75" Sony.
My plan is either a Yamaha 5100 or Marantz 7705 as these are the most prolific Pre-pros out there in my country.. If anybody knows of other way to control a 5.2 setup please say so! :)
So, I am not sure which of the Genelec speakers I want.. 80 or 83 series? And of course size..
My room is 3,5m wide x 5m long, 2,7m high ( 11.5 x 16.5 x 9 ). TV will be plased on the 3,5m wide wall, I will sit 2-2,5m away from screen.
I want all the speakers to be the same model.. and all placed at ear level for surround music, except the center.
Do you have recommendations on which model I should look at?
8X30, 8X40 or 8X50 ?
Depends on how much $€ you are willing to invest. I guess.
Do you want Genelec SAM's that can be calibrated with GLM or the older 80- series?
I would suggest 8050/8350/8351 as LCR. 8030/8330/8040/8340 as surrounds. Subwoofers: 7370/7380.
i would use big L/R and smaller LS/RS speakers.
but i'm addicted to good stereo ;)
maybe 3x 8351 or 8350 for L/C/R
and 8330 for LS/RS
2x 7360 or 2x 7370 for subs.
if you're in europe, i'd recommend the comparatively cheap 1237 for L/R, because music.
the difference between 80 or 83 series is that 83 is fully digital with room and time of flight correction, and volume remote.
i know nothing about receivers, i do everything with htpcs and GLM Volume remote. cheap & versatile, sound quality probably insignificantly better.
8340 & 8341 is good,
8040, 8030, 8330, 8331 is not good, because much lower power output, smaller headroom, smaller dynamic range, I would try stay away from those( unless you go all 3' series, if you are going to use 8340 or 8350, then better not mix 3s' with them)
In the same group, 3s' are much more easy to overload.
I tested that myself.
Do you think I need subwoofers, if I go for 5 x 8340?
What would you choose?
3 x 8350 + 2 x 8330
5 x 8340
