8030 vs. G three

Hi all,

I have been looking to build a home system for watching TV and streaming music from my computer. I am planning to start with two decent speakers. I have done some research (basically going to shops and listening) and the speakers that I liked the most in my price range were the Genelec 8030. They just sound beautiful!

Now, I came across on Genelec's website of the G three, which seems a very similar system compared to the 8030 (besides the different led color, the automatic shut down, color availability, etc.). Regarding the sound quality and power, they appear to be exactly the same. Is this correct or there are other things why the G three could be considered instead of the 8030?

The second question: is there a way (with too much cabling and gear) to have the Genelecs connected to a TV and for streaming audio from a computer at the same time?

I appreciate your help.

Hi,

Here are the differences.

G Three:
XLR and RCA input connectors
Home audio series input sensitivity (-10 dB)
White LED
Intelligent Signal Sensing
"Clean" front panel
Tabletop room EQ setting
LED off setting
All cables are colour matched
Mystic black and Polar white colour options

8030A:
XLR input connector
Professional series input sensitivity (+10 dB)
Green LED
No ISS
Volume control knob and power switch on the front panel
No tabletop room EQ
No LED off setting
Black power cables for all
Matt black colour option

If you want to connect more than one source to your speakers, you will need a switching device, usually a pre-amp, in between them. For example Pro-Ject has some affordable option.

Thanks a lot Ilkka.
It appears that it makes sense to get the G-Three for home usage.

So, is all fixing harware for 8030 valid for G Three too. For example Adjustable wall mount 8000-402?

Can someone explain the practical significance of this difference between the G and the 8000:

Home audio series input sensitivity (-10 dB)
vs
Professional series input sensitivity (+10 dB)

Thanks

Hi,

Thank you for your question. Actually it's not -10 dB and +10 dB but a 10 dB difference instead. Professional series speakers and subwoofers require a -6 dBu signal level (~0.4 volts) to achieve 100 dB output at 1 meter. Home audio series products produce 90 dB at the same signal level. G Three, G Four and F Two have a dip switch to boost the input sensitivity by 10 dB for example if your signal source has a low output level.

Hello,

do the 8030 and the G three sounds different?
I listened to the G three but I do not need the RCA so I'd like to buy the 8030.

Greetings

F.

Hi there,

if they will sound the same, why is a difference in frequency response?

± 2 dB (58 Hz - 20kHz) for 8030B
± 2.5 dB (58 Hz - 20kHz) for G3

If theres no fault in decription than 8030B goes lower than G3??

Hi,

There is no difference in frequency response, it is just a difference in production tolerance. 8030 has a tighter tolerance due to being our professional range product.

There is also no difference in low frequency extension between those models.

Hi,

ISS stands for intelligent signal sensing which means that the speaker will put itself to low power state (power consumption <0.5W) after no signal has been present for a specified time (typically 1 hour). Once the signal is presented again, the speaker will wake up and starts to operate normally.

Yes, that is correct!

So, if a floor stand or stand table is compatible with 8030 it is also compatible with G Three, are, for example, 8130 or 8230 speakers' accessories compatible with G Three as well?

Yes, mainly they all are compatible with different models (same size cabinet).

Hi,

I have a couple of 8030A and I am looking for a hifi audio system for my living room. I was thinking on buy two new Genelec that I will use mainly for hifi listening music but, occasionally to complete my 2.1 8030A system for some quadraphonic mix. Would you recommend buying the 8030C or the G three moodle with this in mind?
